2020 Weddings: A Year in Review

December 23, 2020

< back to blog home

Can you believe that 2020 is almost over? I know. I’m excited too. 2020 was so many things, good and bad. I'm excited to share some of the high moments of the 2020 weddings this year.

Before I say “Bye Felicia” to 2020, (Is that right? Am I an old person trying to be cool here?), I wanted to celebrate some big wins because some truly amazing things definitely happened in 2020.

In today’s blog post, I’m recapping what happened, celebrating all the good, and letting go of the rest.

2021 is going to be amazing and I’m so excited about it already.

Winter

You guys loved Verve’s 12 Most Intriguing Wedding Venues of 2019, so I launched the 2020 Verve Wedding Venue Resource Guide for Upstate New York and wrote Verve’s 10 Most Intriguing Wedding Venues of 2020. Many of these venues were highlighted in my travels in the Hudson Valley and documented in my Hudson Valley Instagram Highlight

Spring

And then on a snowy weekend in March, I attended 2 cake tastings and had a design meeting. There were rumblings of the coronavirus, that weekend, and then that following week everything shut down (that was mid-March here in New York). It was a weird time. Many of us in the industry and my couples were “cautiously” optimistic that we’d be out of it in a few weeks or months, but you all know how that story ends – even though it still hasn’t.

While a lot of our planning was on pause, it gave me the time to launch my wedding Tools & Resources Directory (aka My Favorite Things) for engaged couples and wedding professionals. I’d been wanting to do this for a while, and the pause in planning allowed me to do that.

If you haven’t checked it out, you need to! There are special pricing and discount codes on my favorite tools that I use with my couples and in my business.

The bright spot during this season was this intimate rooftop wedding in Brooklyn at the end of May that was completely virtual.

It was so amazing, that the Today Show and New York Mag interviewed the couple! This was (and probably will be for a long time) a career highlight of mine.

I also wrote several articles to help couples like you navigate this weird time:

Summer

As the lockdown and restrictions on social gatherings continued, I did my best to keep you all informed with the ever-changing guidelines on social media and in my monthly Field Notes newsletter. (Wait, you’re not on it!? You’re missing out! SIGN UP HERE.)

I hosted a webinar that 150 of you signed up to attend in conjunction with the launch of the Wedding Master Planner

I also prepared for some beautiful, intimate weddings and got ready for “half schooling” my kids. Oi.

Fall

During the fall, we celebrated love at some beautiful, intimate weddings.

Like this one inspired by a Dutch Master’s Still Life Portrait, and this one at the Wadsworth Homestead.

I also had a brand photoshoot with the lovely Alexandra Meseke, which produced many of the photos on my website now.

To celebrate my hitting 2,000 followers on Instagram, I launched my Clarity Call service to help couples like you figure out what you need to do to feel excited and confident about your wedding planning.

I also appeared on the Every Day I’m Bustlin’ podcast to talk about Creating and Managing Your Wedding To-Do Lists AND re-launched the Ask the Planner podcast

And last, but definitely not least, I supported many small businesses and wedding vendors during the holiday season. 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, and I firmly believe that you get what you give x 10. You can check out these posts for all my holiday shopping guides: My 2020 Gift Guide and this post on Small Businesses in New York.
