An Impressive Lake House Wedding on Canandaigua Lake

February 23, 2022

< back to blog home

Mallory and Bill were married in the summer, at one of the top wedding venues in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York: The Lake House on Canandaigua. I might be a little biased as a Rochester wedding planner (I only live 25 minutes away!), but Canandaigua Lake is such a special place. We spend almost weekend in the summer (when I don't have a wedding) on Canandaigua Lake with our family so the lake is very meaningful to me. Naturally, I love when couples come to me with visions of a destination wedding weekend in such a truly magical place. I can't wait to share the details on the blog here today!

Are you getting married at The Lake House on Canandaigua Lake? Or still looking for a New York wedding venue? This is our specialty! When you are ready to plan your own Lake House wedding, you can learn more about working together here. We would love to help you plan your own heirloom occasion or destination wedding weekend!

New York Wedding Planner Review

Before I share all of my favorite design details and moments of their Lake House wedding, I have to gush over this sweet review from Mallory. If I don't say it enough, I absolutely love what I do. These two were incredible to work with and I was so grateful to play a role as their Rochester wedding planner.

Other than choosing my husband, choosing to work with Desiree was the best decision that we made for our wedding. Desiree is the most organized, put-together, knowledgeable, helpful wedding planner/person I have ever met. We knew an overall vision of what we wanted for our day but I had no idea how to actually make it a reality. Desiree made our vision come to life and even added special details to make our day uniquely ours. Even elements that I couldn't really put into words or have a picture to show her she was able to make happen! It honestly was like she could read my mind!

My mom actually said during the planning process “when I count my blessings I count Desiree twice” and it is so true.

Even my husband, who was very skeptical about hiring a wedding planner could not stop talking about how amazing Desiree and her team were, and how they were worth every penny the morning after our wedding. The actual day went on without a single blip. Everything was on time, smooth, and perfect! We still have guests that comment about how amazing our day was and specifically point out how smooth it went. That was all thanks to Desiree and her team. Thank you so much for making our day the best day ever!

Fishing Inspired Wedding Decor

When you DIY your wedding design, it can be hard to execute a theme in an elevated way. When you think fishing inspired wedding decor, you probably don't picture Mallory and Bill's gorgeous lake house wedding. But we DID include some fishing touches, as a nod to the fact that the couple both grew up in lakes and love fishing together. Bill actually proposed while they were out fishing on the lake!

I wanted to find a way to include their love of fishing in a unique way that didn't take away from the classic look of their overall wedding decor. We created a “Love is Reel” escort card display with Origami fish leading their guests to their seats. They were hand-lettered, stunning, and a huge hit!

Florals and a Greenery Chandelier

The ceremony space at The Lake House on Canandaigua is just so incredible, it really doesn't need much for a wow factor. I love when I get to work at stunning wedding venues that don't need very much (and my couples love it too!). Trust me, choose a place you love and feel your stress melt away. For Mallory and Bill, we created bunches of white florals and greenery to surround the space and let the natural beauty shine for itself.

Although we brought in fun touches and color with the escort card display, we kept things fairly timeless overall. White florals and greenery have been “trending” for a while now, and we elevated the overall look with an abundance of candles, gold cutlery, and ceramic charger plates. I never like to follow “trends” as a wedding designer, but for a classic neutral palette like this, I have no doubt it will stand the test of time.

Perhaps my absolute favorite detail of the day was their overhead chandelier of flowers and greenery. Mallory wanted a floral installation to hang over the dance floor, and this stunning chandelier really anchored the space. I love the liveliness the greenery brought into the barn wedding venue interior.

The Lake House on Canandaigua Wedding Design

For the most part, Mallory and Bill kept their wedding design classic and timeless. With that said, we didn't want to miss any opportunity to add fun and personal touches into the space. Lately, more and more couples are intentionally creating a good photo op space. For Mallory and Bill, we created a fun greenery wall (with white and yellow florals to tie in the rest of the wedding decor) and paired it with a modern neon sign. It was a huge hit all night!

Planning a Wedding at The Lake House on Canandaigua

Are you feeling inspired yet? I absolutely loved helping Mallory and Bill create something both equally beautiful, and unique to them as a couple. I always believe great design needs to feel just like you. In my humble opinion, that's exactly what we accomplished here. If you are planning a wedding at the Lake House, you can connect directly with me, Desiree, here. I would love to work together and brainstorm ways to make your wedding uniquely and incredibly yours.

In the meantime, here are some sweet words from the bride after the wedding:

Hiring Desiree was the best decision we made for our wedding. She’s the most organized, knowledgeable, helpful person I’ve ever met! My mom said during the planning process “when I count my blessings, I count Desiree twice.” Even my husband couldn’t stop talking about how amazing Desiree and her team were and how it was worth the investment. Thanks for making it the best day ever!
