As a luxury wedding planner serving the Finger Lakes and Hudson Valley of Upstate NY, I work with a variety of couples and clients. In addition to planning my couples' weddings, I am often hired to plan their showers and rehearsal dinners. I love being part of every milestone and making each one special and unique. This travel themed bridal shower I am going to share today is the perfect example (don't worry – it's not the “same old thing” you've seen before)! From rehearsal dinners to the wedding and bridal showers, parents are also often excited to host memorable occasions – but they also want to enjoy planning them too. And when it comes to the actual day, you know they want to be able to visit with guests and be present for those special moments! They definitely don’t want to be too involved in setting up chairs, hanging decor, or stressing out about the logistics because that takes them away from being with their children and family.

Travel Themed Bridal Shower

When I started working with Linda, the mother of the bride, all she said she wanted was a fun bridal shower for her daughter that incorporated the beautiful colors of spring. She wanted it to be fun and whimsical, unlike the neutral color palettes that are popular right now. As a fan of color myself, I knew right away we would make a great team. I loved how she trusted me with the creative process and didn’t have any other parameters to design within. This let my imagination run wild.

The more we worked together, the more I was able to pull out some fun inspiration for the wedding shower’s design. The bride and groom loved to travel. They were honeymooning in Spain and Portugal and had already traveled to several countries together. So we chose a vintage travelthemed bridal shower. As I researched ideas for the travel-themed bridal shower, I kept finding wedding inspiration that focused on vintage and antique pieces. Sepia colored stationery, vintage luggage – it had all been done before. I didn’t want to repeat any of what was already out there. I wanted to do something a little different and original. 

Whimsical, Colorful Bridal Shower

I’d been wanting to do something inspired by mid-century modern furniture for a while, so I started pulling up travel posters from the 1950s and 1960s. I loved the bright colors and decided to use inspiration from several travel posters of Spain and Portugal. 

When I showed the client the design, she absolutely loved it! She loved how cheerful and happy the colors were, how their honeymoon destination inspired the menu, and the unique and fun ways I wove the travel theme into the day. She loved the theme so much, we chose to serve beverages inspired by our color palette: San Pellegrino, Grapefruit Sangria, and Izze Sparkling Juices. 

A Signature Cocktail for the Bridal Shower

• 750 mL bottle riesling
• 750 mL bottle prosecco, or a dry champagne
• 1 cup grapefruit juice
• 1/2 cup simple syrup
• 1/2 cup club soda
• 1 1/2 cups sliced strawberries
• 1 grapefruit, cut into chunks/slices

Beautiful Bridal Shower in Upstate New York

I'm still blushing over this sweet review Lynda left. The whole day was a huge hit – everyone couldn't stop talking about the fun luggage tag escort cards. I had so much fun designing this day. One of my favorite details of the day was the luggage tags that functioned both as an escort card and as the guest’s favors. I mean, how cute are they? Also, the flowers were absolutely gorgeous. I loved all the fun spring colors. Finally, the dessert display was so much fun. We served a variety of desserts, all inspired by the theme and stationery. I don't think there was anything about this day that I didn't absolutely love.
