The Nantucket Proposal
Before we share the wedding, can we have a moment for this Nantucket proposal? Jake planned a proposal straight out of a storybook during a romantic vacation on Nantucket. Knowing Anna’s love for meaningful moments, he arranged a sunset sail aboard the Endeavor, a charming 31-foot sailboat hand-built by its captain. As the golden light danced on the water and the sun dipped below the horizon, Jake got down on one knee, with Anna’s beloved dog, Lilly, by their side. Surrounded by the beauty of the sea and the warmth of the setting sun, Anna said yes to forever. It was a magical beginning to their journey together, and so naturally, water had to be a key factor in the overall design.
Wedding Party Attire
Can we have a standing ovation for the wedding party who brought this jewel-toned color palette to life? They understood the assignment. The wedding party’s attire was a beautiful extension of Anna and Jake’s thoughtful design, blending rich colors and personalized details to complement the fall garden theme. For the bridesmaids, Anna collaborated with My Wedding Wardrobe to create a cohesive yet unique look. She gave her twin sister, Casey, the honor of choosing her gown first before guiding the rest of her bridesmaids in selecting dresses in stunning shades of navy, midnight, and deep plum. The groomsmen looked equally dashing in blue suits from The Suit Shop, paired with custom ties by Loria Letters. These ties, featuring a hand-drawn floral pattern inspired by the lace on Anna’s dress, added an extra layer of sentimentality to the ensemble. Together, the wedding party looked effortlessly elegant and perfectly aligned with Anna and Jake’s vision.
Wedding Ceremony at The Lake House on Canandaigua
The ceremony was a breathtaking celebration of love, set amidst a garden-inspired backdrop that felt straight out of a dream. The floral designs by Flowerwell perfectly captured the season and the couple’s vision, featuring a palette of deep eggplant, mauve, and cream. Chocolate cosmos, ranunculus, hydrangeas, and dahlias adorned the ceremony arch, creating a stunning focal point that framed Anna and Jake as they exchanged vows. These same blooms were thoughtfully incorporated into the bouquets, tying the design together beautifully.
As guests took their seats, a sense of anticipation filled the air, heightened by the enchanting sounds of a string and piano duo from the Shine Band. The wedding party processed to “To Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan, a heartfelt nod to Anna’s father’s favorite artist. When it was Anna’s turn to walk down the aisle, “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles set the perfect tone, its hopeful melody reflecting the joy and warmth of the moment.
Incorporating personal and spiritual elements, the ceremony featured meaningful readings by the mothers of both the bride and groom. Anna’s mother read The Art of a Good Marriage by Wilferd Arlan Peterson, offering wisdom and inspiration for their new life together. Jake’s mother shared a passage from Corinthians, reminding everyone of the enduring power of love.
A Vibrant and Colorful Wedding Reception at the Lake House on Canandaigua
The food
The reception was a masterclass in thoughtful design and unforgettable experiences, seamlessly blending personal touches with timeless elegance. During cocktail hour, guests sipped on a trio of Blackberry Brambles—offered in whiskey, vodka, and spirit-free versions—while enjoying a selection of hors d’oeuvres. As the evening progressed, the culinary offerings delighted every palate. Dinner began with a fresh salad, followed by fire-roasted carrots for the second course, and entrée options of roasted Atlantic cod, grilled beef tenderloin, or cauliflower steak. Later in the night, guests indulged in late-night bites of grilled pizza and gourmet s’mores, hand-torched by the chef for a cozy, elevated twist.
The florals
The gardenesque floral designs by Flowerwell carried through to the reception, with arrangements of chocolate cosmos, ranunculus, hydrangeas, and dahlias gracing chandeliers and centerpieces. Tables were adorned with dual velvet looks from Petunia Rose Luxe Event Rentals—plum and mauve on round tables and teal and navy on rectangles—creating a layered, luxurious aesthetic. Gold-accented china and stemware elevated the settings further, while engraved acrylic signage and table numbers featuring a custom floral pattern echoed the lace from Anna’s dress. Together, these details transformed the space into a stunning, jewel-toned wonderland.
The stationery
Loria Letters created bespoke stationery that wove Anna and Jake’s story into every detail, from a custom toile pattern inspired by their engagement and love of the Finger Lakes to playful nods to their beloved pets. The personalized menus, featuring a vellum overlay with each guest’s name and die-cut details corresponding to their entrée selection, were a standout. Bar signage added a touch of whimsy with pearlized acrylic drawings of the couple’s dogs, tying the design elements together in a way that felt uniquely them.
The wedding cake
One of the most talked-about features of the evening was Anna and Jake’s five-tier wedding cake, a masterpiece by The Cake Shop CNY. Surrounded by a lush floral meadow, the cake featured intricate bas-relief designs, a hand-painted floral tier, and a solid mauve tier. The flavors were as exquisite as the design, offering options like lemon olive oil cake with vanilla bean buttercream, lemon curd, and raspberry jam, as well as almond cake with apple butter, honey buttercream, and almond praline for a seasonal touch.
The favors
Favors were a perfect blend of form and function, displayed on a wall from Revival Rental that was adorned with their custom toile pattern. Oval acrylic ornaments engraved with the sailboat from their engagement served as both escort cards and keepsakes, while greenery repurposed from the ceremony aisle added a final flourish. Every detail, from start to finish, told a story of love, thoughtfulness, and an unforgettable celebration.
