Live Entertainment

Alright, let’s jump into the first trend I’m seeing everywhere in 2025 — and it’s one that I’m personally obsessed with: live interactions! We’re seeing couples book a talented calligrapher personalizing wedding favors right before your eyes, or a live painter creating artwork of the ceremony or first dance on canvas as it happens — it really is pure artistry in motion and not only does it leave you and your guests with a keepsake, it also gives everyone a fun memory to simply be apart of. I’m seeing couples really lean into those interactive experiences that make guests feel like a part of the celebration.

One of my favorites has to be the custom hat stations — I mean, what’s cooler than watching a skilled artisan shape and design a one-of-a-kind hat that guests get to take home as a chic memento? Not to mention, live music has gone next-level, too. Think of a saxophonist or violinist playing alongside the DJ, bringing a fresh, high-energy vibe that makes the dance floor absolutely electric.  For planners, these live elements are gold because they add that wow factor couples crave while keeping guests entertained in the most personalized way possible. And for couples, it’s a chance to truly elevate your wedding day — blending style, entertainment, and artistry into moments that no one will forget.

Custom Experiences

Next up on the 2025 trends list is one I’m so excited to see couples leaning into even more — customized accessories! I’m talking about things like personalized bars, signature cocktails and mocktails, custom signage, napkins, stir sticks — you name it. Couples are all about making every element of their wedding feel uniquely theirs, and these custom touches are the perfect way to do it. It's not just about serving a great cocktail (or mocktail) either; it’s about creating an experience that feels thoughtful and intentional.

Those personalized details like cocktail napkins with a fun phrase or your wedding monogram, or stir sticks that match your color palette — they’re the kind of things guests notice and remember because they show just how much thought went into making the day special. For planners, this trend is a dream because it’s all about storytelling through design — using these details to weave in elements of the couple’s personality throughout the event. And for couples, it’s a chance to add a layer of personalization that goes beyond the usual décor, making the entire day feel like an extension of who they are.

Color is Back

Let me just say, I am thrilled to talk about this next trend because, honestly, I’ve always been a huge fan of color. I’ll be real with you — those all-white and greenery weddings had their moment, but they always felt a little too safe and, dare I say it, boring. That’s why I’m so excited to see couples fully embracing color again in 2025, and doing it in a way that’s bigger, bolder, and more beautiful than ever. We started seeing hints of this trend creeping in back in 2023, but now it’s everywhere. Couples are going all-in with vibrant palettes, mixing rich jewel tones, playful pastels, and daring color combos that instantly elevate the vibe. It’s not just about adding a pop of color here and there; it’s about making it the star of the show — from eye-catching florals to statement tablescapes, even bold fashion choices that break away from tradition.

For planners like me, who’ve always believed that color is where the magic happens, this trend is a dream come true. It lets us get creative with designing experiences that feel joyful, dynamic, and truly reflective of each couple’s personality. And for all of you couples out there, I love that you’re not afraid to say goodbye to the neutrals and go for something that’s vibrant and full of life!

Content Creators

This next trend is a fun one that’s totally changing the game for weddings in 2025 — couples are hiring content creators specifically to hop on all the TikTok-worthy trends from their big day! It’s not just about the traditional photographer and videographer anymore. Now, couples want someone who’s dedicated to creating those quick, candid clips that will blow up on social media before the night’s even over (or that they can watch over and over again until their professional photos come back in a few months). I’m seeing more and more couples embrace this trend, using it to lean into viral TikTok trends or to create those spontaneous, behind-the-scenes moments that give guests — and their followers — a front-row seat to all the wedding magic.

From trending dance challenges on the dance floor to creative transitions between getting-ready shots and the ceremony, having a content creator on-site ensures every special moment is instantly shareable and perfectly on-brand. If you’re curious about what hiring a content creator for your wedding day is like, make sure to tune into episode 146 where we interviewed Ari from Cupid Content Co.

Traditions Are Coming Back

Next, while we talk about trends, some wedding traditions are making their way back! After a few years of couples throwing the rule book out the window and ditching anything that felt too traditional or expected, we’re seeing a shift where couples are bringing back the elements they genuinely want — but with their own modern twist. Things like heartfelt speeches, classic cake-cutting ceremonies, and real stationery — yes, those beautifully printed invitations that guests can hold onto — are all making a resurgence. It’s less about doing things because they’re ‘supposed to’ and more about embracing the traditions that feel meaningful to them. I love that couples are realizing that they can have the best of both worlds: a celebration that’s rooted in tradition but still feels completely personalized and true to who they are.

For wedding planners, this trend is exciting because it allows us to weave in those classic moments that make a wedding feel timeless, while still finding ways to make them feel fresh and relevant for today’s couples. And for the couples themselves, it’s about reclaiming those traditions that bring everyone together — from that slice of cake shared on the dance floor to the personal touch of handwritten notes. It’s a beautiful reminder that some traditions stick around for a reason — they’re moments that create connection, celebration, and those unforgettable memories that everyone will talk about for years to come.

Bachelorette Parties

Now let’s talk about how bachelorette and bachelor parties. They are getting a serious glow-up in 2025! Couples and their crews are moving beyond the typical bar crawls and late-night celebrations, opting instead for experiences that get them up, moving, and feeling good. I’ve been seeing more active adventures like hiking, yoga retreats, or even paddleboarding making their way into the mix, turning these pre-wedding parties into something that’s not just fun, but also memorable and rejuvenating. And it’s not just about getting outdoors — there’s a major trend toward wellness-focused bachelorette parties too. Think spa weekends, group meditation sessions, or even fitness classes that end with a toast of green juice or mimosas. Couples want that quality time with their best friends, but they’re also looking for experiences that leave everyone feeling refreshed and recharged instead of just recovering the next day.

Personally, I’m loving this shift because it makes these celebrations all about connection, health, and a little self-care before the big day. Make sure to tune into episode 129 for more on Bachelorette party planning if this is peaking your interest!

Bridesmaid Dresses

And let’s not forget about the fashion at the wedding itself! Bridesmaid dresses are taking a turn toward the mismatched trend in a big way. They’ve been mismatched for a while but gone are the days of everyone wearing the same shade and silhouette. Now, it’s all about letting your bridal party showcase their individual styles while still keeping a cohesive look. We’re seeing brides choose a color palette or a specific theme and then letting their bridesmaids pick dresses that suit their personalities and body types. It’s a trend that makes everyone look and feel amazing — and, honestly, those mismatched dresses always look so beautiful in photos!

More Events & Full Wedding Weekends

Another trend that’s taking center stage in 2025 is the rise of multi-day wedding celebrations! Couples are spreading out the festivities over an entire weekend (or even longer!), creating more opportunities to relax, connect, and make memories with their favorite people. From welcome parties and laid-back rehearsal dinners to next-day brunches and poolside hangouts, these extra events are all about making the most of the time spent with loved ones. Couples are realizing that the wedding day itself goes by in a blur, and they want more moments to really soak it all in — to celebrate with friends and family in a more relaxed setting before and after the main event. I’m all for this trend because it’s about shifting the focus from just one day to an entire journey — because let’s face it, when you’ve gathered all your favorite people in one place, why not keep the party going a little longer?

Sustainable/Eco Favors

This next trend will probably come as a surprise to nobody but sustainable and eco-friendly favors were another huge thing this year that I don’t see going away anytime soon.  Think things like plantable seed packets, reusable tote bags, handmade soaps, or locally sourced goodies that not only reduce waste but also leave a lasting impression. It’s all about giving your guests a little piece of your celebration that they can take home and enjoy, without adding to their carbon footprint. Plus, these types of favors often tell a story about who you are as a couple and what you care about, which makes them even more meaningful.

Vendors Taking Their Own Content

Alright, we’ve covered all the exciting trends that have us planners buzzing with inspiration for 2025, but now it’s time to switch gears a bit and talk about some trends that aren’t quite hitting the mark. As much as we love seeing fresh ideas and creativity in the wedding world, there are a few things popping up that have us saying, ‘What the heck are they thinking?.’ First on that list: vendors who are desperate for content. With the wedding industry experiencing a bit of a slow year, some vendors have been so focused on capturing B-roll and behind-the-scenes shots that they’re actually getting in the way of the event itself.

I get it — everyone wants to grow their social media presence and show off their work, but when it starts to interfere with the flow of the day or take the focus away from the couple’s experience, that’s where we draw the line. This is exactly why it’s so important to hire professional vendors who know how to balance creating content with staying in the background. A great vendor team understands that their top priority is making sure the couple’s day runs smoothly, not their next Instagram reel. Pros know how to capture those magical moments without disrupting the vibe or stepping in front of the photographer's lens. So if you’re planning your wedding, make sure you’re working with people who are there for you — not just for the likes.  I’m even starting to hear couples say that people who are TOO good at marketing their business or posting content are starting to feel like a red flag.

Grand Exits

Now let’s talk about another trend that’s sticking around but definitely has its challenges: grand exits. Don’t get me wrong, I love a dramatic send-off as much as the next planner, and they’re still very much ‘in’ for 2025. But here’s the thing — those sparkler exits that look so dreamy in photos? They are an absolute logistical nightmare! Between getting all your guests to actually light them at the same time, making sure nobody waves them too close to the happy couple, and then dealing with the cleanup afterward, they’re more trouble than they’re worth. Not to mention, safety can be a serious issue. I’ve had a vendor tell me she feared for her life dodging stray sparks while trying to keep the moment looking picture-perfect. It’s a lot to handle when everyone’s just trying to have fun!

And let’s not even get started on DIY fireworks. I know fireworks can feel like the ultimate grand finale, but please — for the love of your guests and vendors — do not attempt to set them off yourself. Leave that to the professionals who have the experience and equipment to keep everyone safe. A licensed fireworks display can be absolutely stunning, but it’s not worth the risk of injury or an accident that could end your night on a scary note

Champagne Walls

Alright, this one is a little controversial, Let’s dive into a trend that I think it’s time to say goodbye to: the champagne wall. I know, I know — they’ve had their moment and they look super cute in photos, but let’s be honest, they’re just not all they’re cracked up to be. The truth is, champagne walls might make a great visual statement, but they often leave guests with a lukewarm drink that’s lost its fizz, and we all know warm champagne is just sad. Plus, the waste! I can't stand seeing so many half-full glasses left behind just for the sake of the shot. Honestly, this trend has become more about doing it ‘for the photo’ than creating a meaningful experience for guests. The same goes for champagne towers, which, while visually stunning, can be a logistical mess — and let’s face it, most of that bubbly never even gets to be enjoyed the way it should be.

Instead, if you want my advice, try to focus on creating experiences that are both beautiful and functional. Consider interactive cocktail bars where guests can choose their own garnishes or flavors, or even a craft cocktail station with a mixologist creating custom drinks on the spot. You get the same wow factor and plenty of photo opportunities, but with a drink that guests will actually want to sip and savor! The key with these 2025 wedding trends is to find those details that feel authentic to your celebration and don’t just serve as a photo op. Personally, I’m ready to move away from the trends that are all about ‘getting the shot’ and focus more on creating moments that are genuinely memorable for you and your guests — with drinks that stay cold and taste just as good as they look.

Too Many Photos

Now, let’s move on to the next 2025 wedding trend I think couples need to be careful with: getting overly obsessed with taking photos on the big day. Look, I get it — you’ve put so much effort into creating this beautiful celebration, and you want to capture every detail. But when couples get too focused on posing for the perfect shot, they end up missing out on what really matters: spending time with their people. Before you know it, the day is over in a blur of camera clicks, and you realize you hardly got to soak in those moments with the ones you love most. Another issue is not planning the photo schedule accurately. I’ve seen it happen too many times especially when the couple doesn’t have a planner — there’s a loose plan for the day, and suddenly, you’re spending hours on photos, scrambling to fit in every combination, while your guests are off enjoying the party without you.

It’s so important to create a timeline that lets you get those must-have shots without eating up all your time or pulling you away from the moments that matter. As a planner, my best advice is to work with your photographer to create a photo schedule that balances capturing those beautiful images with making sure you get to be present at your own wedding. Prioritize the shots that mean the most to you, and then trust your photographer to catch the rest as the day naturally unfolds.

Complicated Dress Codes

Let’s get into a trend that’s starting to get a bit out of hand: complicated dress codes. Now, don’t get me wrong — I absolutely love when couples embrace color and encourage their guests to join in on the fun. An ‘all-black’ dress code is simple and elegant, but these days, we’re seeing new dress code themes popping up that are way more elaborate — and honestly, they’re leaving guests scratching their heads, wondering, ‘What am I even supposed to wear?!’ Themes like ‘garden chic with a pop of citrus’ or ‘vintage glam meets boho vibes’ sound great on paper, but if you’re not giving guests some solid examples or guidelines, they’re going to be totally lost. No one wants to show up feeling out of place or worse, spend days stressing over how to interpret a dress code that’s too vague or overly creative. And fun fact – we will definitely link to this in the shownotes – but I was googling some of the worst guest dress codes and I have to give you guys some examples:

  • Natural earth attire
  • Camping formal
  • Rubber boot cocktail

What comes to mind? I would have no idea what to wear. If you’re going to go bold with your dress code — and I say go for it if it feels right for your wedding vibe! — then make sure you’re providing your guests with clear, specific examples. Share inspiration photos, suggest color palettes, or even create a Pinterest board to guide them. The goal is to make it easy for your guests to feel comfortable and confident in what they’re wearing, so they can focus on enjoying the day instead of worrying if they nailed the theme. I really love what our etiquette expert, Jamila Musayeva had to say on this topic so make sure to scroll back to episode 148 for more.

Paying to Attend a Wedding

Alright, we’ve saved the worst trend for last — and honestly, this one has me shaking my head every time I hear about it. Couples asking their guests to pay to attend their wedding. Yes, you heard that right. I’ve seen examples on Reddit where couples were charging guests $50 just to show up, get dressed up, and then only offering hors d’oeuvres in return. All because they wanted the ‘pretty wedding’ look for their photos without actually covering the costs to host a proper celebration. I get that weddings can be expensive, and there’s a lot of pressure to have everything look picture-perfect, but asking guests to pay to be part of your day?

That’s a hard no. This trend completely misses the mark on what a wedding is truly about — creating a meaningful experience for your loved ones and making sure they feel appreciated and valued as they celebrate this special moment with you. When couples get too caught up in the aesthetics and forget about the guest experience, it turns the whole event into something transactional instead of the heartfelt gathering it’s supposed to be. If the budget is tight, there are so many beautiful, creative ways to design a wedding that doesn’t compromise on style or hospitality.
