4 Simple Steps to a Magazine-Worthy Wedding

< back to blog home

This probably won’t come as a surprise to you, but I like to be pretty organized. When I plan any event, whether a wedding for my clients or my interns' birthday, I put together a thorough plan before getting started. Often, my clients are looking for a wedding that is gorgeous, and magazine-worthy. They want their wedding to be like the ones they see on Pinterest and in the magazines! But, this means having a plan first.

The backbone of a magazine-worthy wedding is a solid, cohesive aesthetic.

Unfortunately, many couples don't know the first thing when it comes to putting together that aesthetic. They'll ask questions like:

  • How can I make my wedding fun and unique?
  • How can I make my wedding stand out?
  • How do I make my wedding not boring?
  • How do I personalize my wedding?

So today, I'm going to show you how to plan a magazine-worthy wedding and give you a FREE TOOL to help you!

Step One: Pick 3 Words to Describe Your Aesthetic

First, have an overall vision for your day. Limit this to 3 words so you don't get distracted. Are you thinking of an affair that is relaxed, warm, and bohemian? Or maybe you are thinking minimal, modern, and neutral?

Step Two: Pick the Right Venue

Second, find your venue. It’s hard to fit a square peg into a round hole. Don’t try to force a certain theme or aesthetic onto a property that doesn’t work. It will come off as contrived. So start with the venue first. The venue will dictate so many elements of your day!

Step Three: Create a Moodboard

Once you know where you’ll be, put together your overall aesthetic and vision with a mood board. This can be a variety of images, like color palettes, floral inspiration, and design details. Step Four: Book Your Vendors

Reach out to vendors whose style fit with your vision and goals. The list of the vendors that contribute to the overall look of your wedding usually includes:

  • Photographer
  • Stationery (invitation, and day-of paper)
  • Calligraphy
  • Floral/decor
  • Rentals (tables, chairs, furniture, lounge seating, ceremony backdrop, table settings, linens, flatware, china, glassware, cake stand, serving dishes)
  • Cake/Dessert
